“Violated Metropolis” is an exhibition to NOT BE MISSED, especially the opening reception which will be followed by the official PhotoNOLA Closing Party.
Arabi Visual Arts owner & photographer has curated an absolutely stunning collection of works from world-class photographers. The works relate to urban exploration, roof-topping, street art, and generally anything that can be considered a violation of sorts – not just in the metropolis but rural & metropolitan as well.
These are all professional & respected photographers who take their craft very seriously.
Violated Metropolis Exhibiting Photographers
Amanda Dolly – Award-winning internationally exhibited photographer and painter
Christie Fluder – Internationally exhibited photographer, writer, director, and producer based in New York City.
Christopher Ryan – Award-winning international photographer & curator with multiple PhotoNOLA exhibitions based in New Orleans.
Christopher’s short film “A Colorful Boy” will be featured at the 2022 PhotoNOLA Closing Party on December 10th.

Eric Kunsman – Photographer, lecturer, and Assistant Professor at Rochester Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the Visual Communications Studies Department.

Fern Nesson – Fern is an internationally exhibited photographer, filmmaker, lawyer and historian based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Several of Fern’s short films will be featured at the 2022 PhotoNOLA Closing Party on December 10th.

Jason Paul Roberts – Published photographer, photojournalist, and lecturer. Jason has studied under several Magnum photographers and holds an arts degree as well as Multimedia Journalism and Contemporary Social Issues, with a focus on how the media impacts marginalized communities. Jason is a recent transplant to New Orleans.

Kathleen Tunnell Handel – Kathleen is an award winning photographer who holds a B.F.A. in Textile Design Rhode Island School of Design, Providence RI. Her works have been exhibited in prestigious museums and galleries throughout the United States.
Kathleen will attend the opening reception on Saturday, December 10th from 6 to 9 pm.
Mary Lou Uttermohlen – Mary Lou is a published photographer who received Master’s from The Ohio State University; has earned two fellowships; and has work in several collections including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Collection. She is based in New Orleans.
Richard Vallon, Jr. – Richard is a commercial photographer, lecturer, and visual artist who Graduated ASU Tempe in 1981 and is based in New Orleans.
Richard will attend the opening reception on Saturday, December 10th from 6 to 9 pm.
Russell Gorbaty – Russell is a daring urban photographer who has produced a striking body of work at the abandoned Jazzland (Six Flags) in New Orleans and many other locations. He is based in New Orleans.
William Kinney – William is an artist, filmmaker, and photographer who graduated from the prestigious film program at Columbia College. William is also an official Artist of the French Quarter and is based in New Orleans.
William will attend the opening reception on Saturday, December 10th from 6 to 9 pm.

The opening reception for this exhibition (12/10/22 from 6 pm to 9 pm) is immediately followed by the PhotoNOLA Closing Party. Both are located on the St. Claude Arts Campus.

6 pm to 9 pm – Christopher Ryan’s solo exhibition “Lord of the Flies – Thailand” open to the public next door at Zeitgeist Theatre & Lounge.
6 pm to 10 pm – Art Conscious opening exhibition for Altered State
9 pm to midnight – The 2022 PhotoNOLA Festival Official Closing Party featuring Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes! There will be multiple short films related to photography including “Frames of Life” by Mary Engel, daughter of Ruth Orkin.
“Violated Metamorphosis – A photographic look at Urban Exploration, Roof-topping, Street Art, and Blight” is a group photography exhibition being held at Arabi Visual Arts in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Arabi Visual Arts is approximately a ten minute drive from the French Quarter and is located in the St. Claude Arts Building along the St. Claude Arts Corridor (in the portion known as The Arabi Arts District). This exhibition will feature stunning photography from all areas of Urban Exploration. The selections will be based on quality of work, completeness & accuracy of the submittal package, and other factors.
